I was out for a walk with my dog around the back bay and heard a loud commotion – an obvious bird in distress. All the back bay birds scattered and ran for safety. I walked down closer to the bay and saw a coot struggling for it’s life. This, I believe, is a Cooper’s Hawk? The red eyes and black head indicated it might be so. He or She, after dragging the Coot out of the water, stood very still over the Coot waiting for it to take it’s last breath. Then it carted it off into the brush where I could no longer see it and I presume had itself one very large dinner. The American Coot was almost as big as the Hawk. As usual, click to enlarge for a closer look.
