I could sit by the side of the shore watching these smallest of shorebirds for hours. I love watching them feed and interact with one another. My favorite part of birding is observing their behavior. Today we have a Juvenile Spotted Sandpiper, Killdeer (what a name?), Least Sandpipers and a SemiPalmated Plover (fall juvenile). These birds are about 5-6″. Tiny!
I have 4 different birding books I refer to, with the changes in plumage during the various seasons and plumage changes with age it has really posed quite the challenge for me. Enjoy the photos!
