  1. Hi Beedie, I’m a photographer, my wife is not but she wanted to learn and asked me to teach her. I have a bunch of good analog and digital cameras plus lenses etc. I bought her a Canon Powershot G10 and i gave her a few pointers. She loves that camera now and would not change it for nothing else. She does well with it and her photos are sometime better than mine! Read a bit about that camera and give it a try. I had Poweshots since they had the G2. All are excellent.
Once you have found what type of photography you want to do, then you can pick the appropriated camera for that purpose. If you already bought a camera, please disregard my comment.

    • I did, I did buy a camera :O) Canon Powershot SX40 HS. We’re in sync on the Canon Powershots. Just what I needed for my next level. I really LOVE it!

      • I have the Powershot SX30 . These cameras have a heck of a lens, crystal clear, that many expensive lenses would love to have. plus HD and x30 magnify. You made a wise decision BD! 🙂

        • I agree. I made the decision after walking into a camera shop and explained I wanted a camera to shoot wildlife and nature – the very sweet owner told me not to spend my money on an expensive DSLR. To go with the newer Canon SX40 – the lens is amazing!! Woot! Woot!

  2. Darn, I’m late into the suggestion game – I shoot with a Canon Rebel XS, a really nice entry level camera with, I have found, plenty of reasonabily priced used lenses kicking around (I’ve managed to collect up 3 telephotos and 3 prime lenses without breaking the bank) that have turned it into a very versitile and economical camera.

    • Thank you for your input Marcel. Yes I’ve made my purchase already. But, I love learning what others are doing with their photography. I will move up gradually to other models, I’m sure over time. I have a lot yet to learn about Photography in general. Have a great weekend!

  3. Beedie… as Mike said, you can’t really go wrong with the newest DSLRs. Whether you are using a Canon or a Nikon, modern technology has amazing strides in image quality. Here’s a couple of links to a reputable dealer who you can go back to if you have any problems:

Canon EOS Rebel T3 with an 18-55mm lens: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/753766-REG/Canon_5757B002_EOS_Rebel_T3_Digital.html

Canon EOS Rebel T3i with 18-55mm lens: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/753762-REG/Canon_5169B003_EOS_Rebel_T3i_Digital.html

Oh yeah, for those early morning or late evening photographs… don’t forget to invest in a solid tripod too!

  4. Hi Beedie,

Most entry level DSLRs are pretty good these days. I use a Canon 500D for landscape and marco images, and a Canon 7D with a Sigma 150 – 500mm Sigma lens attached for wildlife. I have not regretted purchasing my cameras, or lenses.
