This is a male, breeding American Goldfinch – Goldfinches are among the strictest vegetarians in the bird world, selecting an entirely vegetable diet and only inadvertently swallowing an occasional insect. As usual, click directly on the image to enjoy even further.

Terrific shots of this colorful beauty!
Wonderful close up look at this sweet little bird.
Thank you Pat. Yes, he indeed is a beauty.
Goldfinches are some of my favorites that live in my gardens. On the East Coast (USA) where I reside, they’re still in their winter colors. I grow coneflowers, which is their mainstay for their little ones. Your images are lovely reminders of the hues yet to be in the months ahead. Thanks.
Thank you for sharing my friend. I love our American Goldfinches. When they appear in their summer colors I know that warmer weather is just around the corner. Yay!
Il est magnifique. Wonderfull little bird ! Great picture also !
Thank you lo! :O)
So beautiful! What camera and lens did you use and how far away were you from it? I’m very impressed!
Thank you! I have a Canon SX50HS. The zoom lens is outstanding on this camera. I can be quite a ways from a bird, thus not disturbing it in it’s habitat, and get really good shots. Here’s a link to the cam review: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canon-powershot-sx50-hs
Its really a Beautiful bird… nice photos.
